Library Summer Program

In conjunction with Hartford Public Library, our students can register for the Summer Learning Program.  Through this program, they can track the books they read over the summer (starting June 6).

There are also many excellent programs (day, evening, and weekend) being offered by the Hartford Public Library.  These events are open to students in all Hartford Public Schools, regardless of their hometown.

Please follow this link - http://summer.hplct.org/ - and sign up!  Also, visit the Hartford Public Library website for event information.

Summer Programs

As we wrap up the year and start thinking about out summer breaks, I wanted to share a couple of summer programs offered.

The Boys & Girls Club will be hosting programs and activities from June 4 to July 2.  The program will be held from 9:00am until 5:00pm each weekday at the Asylum Hill Boys and Girls Club (170 Sigourney Street, Hartford).  It is for students ages 6 to 11. They will take the students on field trips, provide social recreation, and target programs such as promoting healthy eating and exercise.  The cost of this summer camp is $375. If you are interested you may contact Dante Smith at 860-209-5041 or dsmith@bgchartford.org

The second opportunity is the Trailblazers Basketball Skills Camp.  There are two camp sessions -June 29-July 2 and August 10-14.  It is held at Capital Prep and open to children in grades 3-10.  The cost is $110 per child (if registering more than one child, it is $95).  There is a $10 discount if children attend both sessions.  For more information, contact Coach Tammy Millsaps at 860-695-9812 or millt004@hartfordschools.org

These are both great opportunities to keep the kids active during the summer breaks!

Testing Preparation

As you most likely know, it is that time of year where the kids showcase what they know and can do.  Students are wrapping up MAP testing (Math and Reading), taking benchmark assessments, and preparing for the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC).  If you have questions about the SBAC, please visit this site for some answers or reach out to me.

In class, we discuss these assessments and how students can prepare at home.  One way has been through the homework assignments (paper-pencil and online) that have been given through out the year.  Another way is to make sure students are at their best as they approach the test.  Being well-rested, both physically and mentally, is very important.  We do not want the kids to be too stressed as they approach the test.  That being said, during the week of the Math SBAC, students will not receive math homework.  A lighter math homework menu will resume the week of May 11.

As always, we encourage students to access their Dreambox, iReady, and IXL accounts at home.  In addition, the SBAC practice site is a great resource for students and families.

I have complete confidence that the students in Room 100 will give the SBAC 150% of their efforts and do their best.  They have grown and learned so much this year, it's time for them to show it off!

SBAC Testing

Starting Monday, May 4, students in grades 3-5 will be taking their SBAC Test.  Below is the schedule for the next few weeks:
