The internet can be a great place! I wanted to share a few (free) resources for students to use to practice skills from the past and present units of study. These can be great if your child has some extra time on his or her homework menu or if you want to have them practice their math skills..which I am a great supporter of :)
Math Playground has TONS of games to practice different skills. A great game, which Walker showed me, was Meteor Multiplication. Multiplication fact fluency is one of our year-long skills in both grades. In addition to fact practice games, Math Playground has games for all the other skills and concepts we teach in 4th and 5th grade. The games also align to Comm Core Standards.
For the often challenging topic of Long Division, Snork's Long Division is a great step-by-step resource to reinforce how to do long division. 4th grade just began this topic today and 5th grade will be extending their knowledge of division over the upcoming weeks.
As a treat or reward, Cool Math and their other websites provide students with opportunities to practice math skills in a sneaky way. There are also great tutorials and step-by-step lessons for various topics. Overall, it is a great resource and a sly way to get kids to enhance their math skills.
